Drug surrenderers are undergoing healing process

LAOAG CITY — There is hope in second chances. Government initiatives such as community-based rehabilitation programs (CBRP) are helping former drug users return to society.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) is a reporting that a total of 4,773 persons have already completed their CBRP training. This is from the region’s total 6, 277 surrenderers as of September 30, 2017.

PSWDO Officer Lilian Rin spoke of how the office’s 13-module program guides recovering drug dependents into their “reintegration and transformation.”

Also providing support for the program is the Diocese of Laoag along with other religious groups, in the form of “psycho spiritual guidance” to participants.

As of writing, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reports that out of the 21 towns and two cities of Ilocos Norte, at least 430 out of the 513 drug-affected barangays have been cleared of drug-related activity.
