Breaking The Habit

Bureau of Customs wants full automation this year

CORRUPTION MUST END. The Bureau of Customs (BOC) wants no less than full automation of its processes within the calendar year.

This is according to BOC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña: “Yung trade facilitation, that will be my emphasis this year. It will be on full automation. We will be working on that,” he said.

Lapeña believes full automation is the key to cut down on processing time, and more importantly, address corruption.

For now, the bureau is focusing on implementing the five-day rule on processing documents.

“Yung process time na ‘yan ‘pag mabagal talagang diyan nagkakaroon ng negotiation. ‘Pag may delay may kita. That’s why we have to improve our efficiency, our process time. You remember that ‘pag may delay, may kita,” Lapeña emphasized.

Lapeña made clear that he already knows which BOC personnel make a habit of delaying processes.

“Wait until I catch up with all of you. I am strict with my one-strike policy,” he said.
