All Active Military Personnel to Get Free MRT-3 Rides for One Year

No BEEP card, no problem. Using their AFP identification cards, all active military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) can get free MRT-3 rides starting April 25, valid for one year.

This initiative was made possible through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the AFP.

A signing ceremony between the two agencies represented by DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, DOTr Usec. For Railways Timothy John Batan, MRT-3 General Manager Rodolfo Garcia, and Civil Relations Service AFP (CRSAFP) Commander Brig. Gen. Bienvenido Datuin, Jr will be held at the MRT-3 Depot in Quezon City also in April 25.

DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan and AFP Chief of Staff Carlito Galvez Jr. will note the agreement and it will be approved by DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade and Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

The free train ride is a way to recognize the service and sacrifices of our military according to Secretary Tugade.

“Isa sa pinakamahirap na tungkulin ang maging sundalo. Maliit na pabor lamang ito bilang pasasalamat sa kanilang sakrispisyo at pagmamahal sa bayan,” he said.

The AFP, in exchange, is willing to provide assistance in the form of ambulance and medical teams to the DOTr-MRT-3 during emergencies and crisis situations.

A similar MOA was also signed last year between the AFP and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA). The MOA grants all uniformed personnel are entitled to free rides at the LRT-2 until December 2018 as a way to show appreciation for the soldiers who fought during the Marawi City siege
