DOLE wants 5-minute standing and walking breaks for employees

All work and no rest makes Juan a very tired boy.

If you’ve ever held a job where you felt like you had your feet chained to the floor, then you know why this matters.

“The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is ordering employers to give their workers regular 5-minute standing breaks every 2 hours and encourage them to “reduce sedentary work” by getting to their feet and walking.”

The welcome gesture from DOLE is Department Order 184, issued last October 18, 2017. It’s meant for employees working desk jobs, wherein they’re seemingly tied to their seats for long hours.

“Computer, administrative and clerical jobs fall under this category, as are those working at “highly mechanized” establishments and toll booths, as well as transportation, information technology and business process management industries.”

Also included in the directive is the call for better design of workstations.

Obviously, for this order to gain its legs (pun intended), implementation is key.

Any feedback on this since it rolled out? We’d love to hear from you!
