P4B Worth of Infra Projects Coming to Benguet

The mountainous province of Benguet is set to receive an “infrastructure makeover” this year.

According to Rep. Ronald Cosalan, the province situated in the Cordillera mountains has received billions worth of funding for the repair, rehabilitation, and upgrading of its infrastructure. The Department of Public Works and Highways will have the bulk of the funding go to various national roads and bridges in the province.

Cosalan added that P1 billion will be spread out in the different agencies for the upgrading of farm to market roads, construction of school buildings, improvement of agrarian reform communities and irrigation facilities, scholarship grant to poor but deserving students, and the provision of basic health services and livelihood program.

“We are happy to report we were able to get billions of funding for the benefit of our constituents. Bulk of which will be spent for the improvement of major road networks in the province and farm to market roads which we see as the most vital road infrastructure project to help our farmers deliver their goods to the market,” Cosalan said.

Once the infrastructure projects are completed, farmers from the far-flung areas of Benguet will experience the benefits first-hand as the transportation cost of their agricultural products will be reduced.

Cosalan said the budget can lead to better and more convenient travel around the province in the future. He is also working to get funding for the unpaved 80 out of the 143 kilometer circumferential road that will interconnect Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay.

Benguet got more than P3.3 billion worth of various infrastructure projects in 2017. The budget was used in different parts of the province by various agencies.
