SB19 House Resolutions Seek to Honor P-pop Kings’ Global Success

The recently filed SB19 House resolutions are bringing the P-pop kings’ global achievements into the spotlight. These measures cover their historic performance at Lollapalooza Chicago, appointment as Philippine tourism ambassadors, and other contributions promoting Filipino music, culture, and tourism.

Why the SB19 House Resolutions Were Filed

House Resolution No. 1280, authored by Representatives Javi Benitez, Nelson Lagacion, Sarah Jane Elago, and Kathryn Joyce Gorriceta, aims to honor SB19 for what it describes as the group’s historic contributions to Filipino music and culture.

It cited the following achievements: their recent appointment as Philippine tourism ambassadors, their being the first homegrown Filipino act to perform at Lollapalooza Chicago, and member Josh Cullen’s ceremonial first pitch at a Chicago White Sox game. The latter makes Cullen the first P-pop artist to receive the honor during a Major League Baseball regular-season game.

Meanwhile, House Resolution No. 1266, filed by Representative Charisse Anne Hernandez, also commends the quintet for its outstanding accomplishments, describing them as a symbol of excellence, resilience, innovation, and patriotism.

Beyond Music

More than just celebrating the group’s achievements, House Resolution No. 1280 also highlights SB19’s wider impact on Philippine tourism and culture. Lawmakers said their growing international fanbase has encouraged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and foreign supporters alike to travel to the Philippines to attend concerts, helping generate tourism and economic growth.

The resolution also credits SB19’s commitment to producing and performing Filipino music for inspiring international fans to learn the language and gain a deeper appreciation for Philippine traditions, heritage, and values.

Representative Benitez added that SB19’s success has helped pave the way for future Filipino artists, saying their achievements have created new opportunities for the country’s music and tourism industries to reach a global audience.

Both SB19 House resolutions are currently pending before the House Committee on Creative Industries. A separate Senate resolution was also filed earlier this month citing similar parameters. If adopted, the resolutions would formally recognize SB19’s contributions to elevating P-pop on the global stage and showcasing Filipino talent to audiences across the world.
