
Sara Duterte Impeachment: Here are the Lawmakers Who Said “Yes”
The House Committee on Justice has unanimously approved the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte, with 55 lawmakers voting in favor of the move on May 4.
This signals a major step forward in the impeachment process, as the committee concluded that the evidence presented meets the constitutional threshold to elevate the case to the House plenary.

What Did They Approve?
The committee report consolidates two (2) impeachment complaints and outlines multiple grounds against Duterte, including alleged misuse of public funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, corruption, and threats against top government officials.
Lawmakers cited audit findings, financial records, and witness testimonies as the basis for their decision. Among the allegations are the supposed misuse of at least ₱612.5 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education (DepEd), as well as discrepancies in Duterte’s declared assets.

The 4 Articles of Impeachment
The approved report contains four (4) key articles:
- Article I: Misuse of confidential funds, classified under culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust
- Article II: Unexplained wealth and discrepancies in Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN)
- Article III: Alleged bribery involving officials under Duterte’s authority
- Article IV: Alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Areneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, as well as accusations of political destabilization
What Happens Next
Following the committee’s approval, the report will be transmitted to the House plenary, where at least one-third of all members must vote in favor for the impeachment to proceed.
If adopted, the case will move to an impeachment court, where Duterte could face trial and possible disqualification from public office.
A plenary vote could take place as early as May 11.
