SM Goes All for Down with Nationwide Call for Inclusion
On March 21, malls across the Philippines carried one unified message: All for Down. Through a synchronized nationwide activation, SM Supermalls reinforced its commitment to inclusion, marking World Down Syndrome Day with meaningful, community-driven efforts.
Led by its corporate social responsibility arm, SM Cares, the initiative mobilized 89 malls nationwide turning everyday spaces into platforms for awareness, empathy, and action.
A Nationwide Movement for Inclusion
World Down Syndrome Day, observed globally every March 21, symbolizes the triplication of the 21st chromosome. For SM, however, the celebration went beyond symbolism.
This year’s All for Down campaign transformed malls into inclusive spaces where individuals with Down syndrome were not just acknowledged but actively supported and celebrated. From Luzon to Mindanao, employees, tenants, and mallgoers participated in a shared advocacy that emphasized dignity, respect, and belonging.
The effort highlighted SM’s vision of becoming a true “Mall for All,” where every Filipino feels seen and valued.
One Mic, One Message
At the heart of the campaign was a simple yet powerful activation: “One Mic, One Message.”
Across participating malls, standing microphones invited people to share messages of support for the Down syndrome community. These were not scripted lines they were raw, personal, and sincere.
Messages like “You belong here,” and “You are seen, valued, and respected,” echoed throughout mall spaces, creating moments of connection between strangers and strengthening awareness at a grassroots level.
Mall managers also took part, delivering closing messages that underscored leadership’s role in driving inclusivity. The result was a unified voice across all locations one that brought the All for Down message to life.
Inclusion in Everyday Practice
Beyond public activations, SM strengthened its internal efforts to ensure inclusivity becomes part of daily operations.
Sensitivity training sessions were conducted for frontliners, security personnel, tenants, and maintenance teams. These sessions focused on proper communication, respectful assistance, and understanding the needs of persons with disabilities.
In addition, “All for Down” guide posters were installed in employee areas as constant reminders of inclusive service standards. These initiatives reflect a deeper commitment: making inclusion not just an event, but a culture practiced every day.
Building Toward a Bigger Moment
The March 21 activation also serves as a lead-up to the SM Cares Happy Walk, set on March 29. The annual event is expected to gather over 6,000 participants nationwide, including families, advocates, and members of the Down syndrome community.
More than just a walk, the event symbolizes unity and sustained support. It reinforces that the All for Down movement extends beyond a single day continuing through year-round programs, safe spaces, and nationwide initiatives.
