Valid IDs in the Philippines 2025: Which One Do You Really Need?
Getting a valid ID in the Philippines feels easy. But when you need it for banking, government services, or travel, things get tricky. Every institution accepts a different list. We break down what IDs work where in 2025.
What Is PhilSys / National ID
The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) law (RA 11055) created a national ID for all citizens and resident aliens. The PhilSys ID (also called PhilID) uses a unique number (PhilSys Number or PSN) and biometric registration. You can also use the Digital or printed ePhilID version as your valid ID while waiting for the physical card.

Which IDs Work for Banks & Financial Institutions
If you want to open a bank account, send money, get a loan, or open a savings account, here are the IDs banks commonly accept:
- PhilSys ID / ePhilID / Digital National ID
- Passport
- Driver’s License
- UMID (Unified Multi-Purpose ID)
- SSS / GSIS IDs
- PRC ID for professionals
- Postal ID
- Voter’s ID (COMELEC)
Different banks have slightly different lists. Always check your bank’s website.
Other IDs for Specific Scenarios
Besides banks, other valid IDs are needed for services like job hiring, government aid, travel, and student stuff:
- School ID (for students or minors)
- Passport (for international travel or foreign nationals)
- NBI or Police Clearance (some offices or job applications require these)
- Senior Citizen Card, OFW ID, Seaman’s Book, MARINA ID, PWD / NCDA / Barangay certifications, etc.
PhilID / National ID vs Other Valid IDs
PhilSys aims to simplify all this. It’s meant as a universally valid ID across the public & private sectors. However, some institutions still require multiple IDs or older IDs due to signature requirements or internal policies.
So even with PhilID, keep at least one other government-issued photo ID.
