22-Year-Old Filipina Wins Int’l Food Influencer Award

A typical day for Caitlin Sakdalan is checking out one restaurant after another, experiencing a variety of wonderful food, and doing photo shoots along the way. On some days, she could be in a different country for a press trip and learning about a new place and culture. Other times, she could just be at home creating content for her blog BeFatBeHappy, answering emails, and keeping up with work in general.

With a job that allows her to indulge in her passion for food, Caitlin’s life is surely something that a lot of millennials envy and aspire to have. And her recent win at the 2018 Influencer Awards Monaco (IAM) — often referred to as the “Oscars” of influencers — makes her career all the more enviable.

Feeding her appetite and soul

Of course, these achievements can’t be reached without putting in the work. Caitlin started her blog four years ago, and since then, she has strived to improve her skills especially in food photography.

“My pictures are 100 percent better than the over-filtered, poorly composed photos I was posting on Instagram four years ago. I’ve learned so much about food photography and continue to evolve my style and shots,” Caitlin said in her interview with Cosmopolitan.

She also added that authenticity has been important to her as well. While she makes sure to plan her content and put more thought in the things she share, Caitlin said that her work has to be authentic to who she is and the food she loves.

According to Caitlin, in order to keep her content aligned with her personal values, she focuses on the three core drivers in her life: feeding her appetite, feeding her soul, and feeding others.

“I have been more holistic in my approach. My three core drivers in life are to feed my appetite, feed my soul, and feed others. This comes out on my online platforms and life in various ways. The most obvious is how I feed my appetite daily and share myself devouring mouth-watering food. When it comes to feeding my soul, I’m consistently looking to live a purposeful life based on my faith,” she said.

Caitlin also shared how she believes that “everyone deserves to be fed and feel the comfort of having a meal.” That is why she has dedicated to use her influence to support causes close to her heart.

Being the “Best Hope Food Influencer Of The Year”

The Influencer Awards ceremony brings together the top international influencers from across the globe. This year, the event was hosted by IAM ambassador Pauline Ducruet of Monaco, daughter of Princess Stephanie and granddaughter of Grace Kelly.

There are thousands of influencers from various categories ranging from food to fashion. From those high numbers, only 50 had been shortlisted for every category. The IAM jury further trimmed the list until the top ten in each category emerged. The top ten influencers from each category were then invited to the official gala and awards ceremony, where two finalists from each category would win. Caitlin was one of the two recipients of the distinguished “Best Hope Food Influencer of the Year.”
