10-Year-Old Pinay Gets Standing Ovation at ‘Asia’s Got Talent’

Eleana Gabunada, a 10-year-old singer from Manila, received loud cheers and a standing ovation for her cover of “Defying Gravity” at Asia’s Got Talent.

David Foster, one of the judges at the show, praised the young singer for her moving rendition of the song.

“There’s two parts of being a singer/actor — one is the singing, which you nailed. But the other is believing you. And when you sing that song, I believe you, and that’s really important,” he said.

“If you hang on to that, you’re going to be a Broadway star,” Foster added.

Other judges echoed this compliment for Gabunada.

“After watching that, I think that this season right now is the best season so far. The ending gave me goosebumps, that was amazing, good job!” said judge Jay Park.

Meanwhile, Indonesian star Anggun said, “That song was super complicated, and the difficulty level was super high, but you made it look like it was nothing. And the last note you hit that was glorious.”

Pinoys at the Grand Finals

Junior Good Vibes, a dance group from Sampaloc, Manila, was unanimously voted by the judges to go straight to the grand finals. With their show-stopping dance routine that included head tilts, insane flips, sleek formations, and comedic belly dancing, the judges all agreed that their performance was “flawless.”

Another Filipino act to watch out for at the Grand Finals is Philip Galit, aka Shadow Ace, who was voted by the public into the grand finals.

Meanwhile, Gabunada still has to garner enough votes in order to make it to the grand finals. The teen singer is part of the second batch of finalists – the champion will be declared on April 11.

Asia’s Got Talent airs on AXN Asia. The finals will again be held in Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
