Breaking The Habit

Is Converge ICT the solution to our internet woes?

Converge ICT could bring the better internet the Philippines has long been waiting for. Are you ready for the future? We sure are.

Word spread ahead of President Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA). The country’s fastest growing local fiber internet provider had sent shockwaves through the telecommunications industry.

Converge ICT had “commissioned an innovative and flexible high capacity backbone.” This was to give Filipinos and businesses “their most powerful connection yet.”

This is a 400G metro backbone that makes use of industry-best technology. It promises speedy internet service Filipinos have been looking forward to for a long time.

The network will be utilizing Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) technology. This is capable of “automatically routing traffic to multiple available paths during fiber breaks, a feature that traditional DWDM technology cannot provide.”

What does this mean? This means a “programmable, dynamic set up of connections that increases adaptability and resiliency, with the ability to prepare for easily scaling to higher capacity 800G wavelengths to support future growth.”

Converge ICT Founder and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Anthony Uy is highly optimistic about this network expansion.

“[It] gives us the confidence that we can deliver on our commitment to foster simple, fast, and reliable connectivity for both existing and potential customers,” he said.

Dennis Anthony Uy is from Pampanga, not to be confused with Davao native businessman Dennis Ang Uy.

Putting all the marbles on the Philippines

In early July, Converge ICT filed for an IPO of up to 35.9 billion pesos. With looming economic challenges, it instills confidence across industries to see a company like this make a bet on the country.

While last year started strong for the stock market, we were met with a series of road bumps to end the year. Converge ICT may be the glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak 2020.

Converge is mostly available in Metro Manila, currently serving less than a million subscribers.
