Legless Student is Champion in Calabarzon Swimming Competition

The heart of a champion. That’s what a legless and one-armed 19-year old student showed us last Monday in the Calabarzon Regional Games in San Pablo City.

Marco Tinamisan, a Grade 9 student of Talipan National High School (TNHS) in Pagbilao Quezon, has won the hearts of many people when he bagged the bronze medal in backstroke despite great odds.

Like all of the other members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Quezon, Tinamisan has earned the respect and admiration of Quezon First District SP Board Member Aileen Resplandor Buan who specifically mentioned him on her privilege speech.

“Dahil sa ipinakita niyang kahusayan sa paglangoy, sa kabila ng kanyang kapansanan, ay nagsisilbi siyang inspirasyon sa ating mga kabataan sa ating lalawigan para magsikap sa arena  ng sports o kahit sa ibang larangan,” Buan said.

Marco Tinamisan has already won silver medals in freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke categories at the Quezon Provincial Athletic Meet prior to the regional games. He also has several medals and awards under his belt including the Games for Special People sports competition sponsored by the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Quezon in 2014.

He was shortlisted for DepEd’s Orthopedically Handicapped at STCAA 2014 in  Lucena City and has participated as a swimmer for the Calabarzon Team OH category. He is now set to compete in the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled in Manila.

Marco is legless since birth and has only a stump where his left arm should be. Despite all that, he showed incredible resilience, determination, and passion towards swimming.
