Tired of Metro Manila traffic? 3 places to spend your weekends in the South
For many Metro Manila residents, a weekend drive can mean more time in traffic than at the destination. For those who already live in Laguna and nearby parts of South Luzon, however, there are places to visit without making a trip to the capital.
From lakeside strolls to scenic drives and new dining spots, here are three destinations to consider for your next weekend out.
1. Nuvali Lakeside, Santa Rosa, Laguna
For a relaxed afternoon outdoors, Nuvali Lakeside offers open spaces and views of the water. Visitors can walk around the lake, watch the fish, or take a boat ride when available. The surrounding Nuvali estate also has restaurants and cafés for those who want to grab a meal after spending time outdoors.
It is an option for residents of Santa Rosa, Biñan, and nearby areas who want a change of scenery without planning an entire day around a long drive.
2. Twin Lakes, Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway
Those looking to take a longer drive can head to Twin Lakes, a leisure and dining destination along the Tagaytay-Nasugbu Highway in Laurel, Batangas. The development has restaurants, cafés, and shops set against a hillside landscape.
It works for groups planning a lunch date, couples looking for a scenic stop, or friends who want to break up a drive toward Tagaytay with a meal and coffee.
3. SM Nuvali, Santa Rosa, Laguna
Opening on Nov. 27, SM Nuvali will add another leisure and dining destination to Santa Rosa. Its planned attractions include a one-hectare air-conditioned indoor garden, casual dining restaurants, open-air promenades, playgrounds, and a paw park.
The indoor garden is designed with a cooling system inspired by Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay, allowing sunlight into the space while helping limit heat buildup.
For South Luzon residents, the new mall will offer another option for weekend meetups, family outings, and casual dining closer to home. Its location along Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road may also make it a convenient stop for motorists exploring the area.

A weekend break does not always have to mean a long drive or an overnight stay. For residents of Laguna and nearby provinces, local parks, dining areas, and leisure destinations offer ways to get out of the house without traveling all the way to Metro Manila.
