DavaoGo Commuter App: 17-Year-Old Filipino Student Helps Dabawenyos Find Their Routes
A 17-year-old Filipino student is making daily commutes easier through a mobile app designed for Davao City residents. Francisco Navalta, a Grade 12 student at Assumption College of Davao, independently developed the DavaoGo commuter app to help people navigate local jeepney and DC Bus routes. The app reached the Top 10 Free Apps in Google Play’s Maps and Navigation category, marking a major milestone for the young developer. His project shows how young Filipinos can use technology to solve everyday problems in their communities.
DavaoGo commuter app designed by a Grade 12 Student

Navalta began learning how to code at just 12 years old by creating games on Roblox. Over time, he became interested in developing software that could help people beyond the gaming world. He eventually created DavaoGo: Dabawenyo Commuter Guide as a practical solution for commuters who sometimes struggle to find the right routes. His journey highlights how skills developed through personal interests can grow into meaningful projects.
Helping Dabawenyos Navigate Jeepney and Bus Routes
The app helps users explore jeepney and DC Bus routes, identify stops, and check estimated fares. Navalta organized its route information using public transit data from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). The DavaoGo commuter app also offers walking directions and saved routes to make trip planning more convenient. These features can be especially helpful for students, new residents, and visitors who are unfamiliar with Davao City’s transportation network.
A Simple Design With a Multilingual Assistant
Navalta designed the app with a minimalist interface so users can navigate its features without unnecessary complications. It also includes SANI, a multilingual assistant that allows commuters to ask questions and plan trips in a language they are comfortable using. According to Navalta, the assistant’s name carries personal meaning because it reminds him of his late father. Through these features, the DavaoGo commuter app aims to make route planning more accessible and user-friendly.

From Roblox Projects to a Growing Independent App
Before developing DavaoGo, Navalta founded FranCheese, a business that provided plug-and-play development systems to more than 600 Roblox creators and reportedly generated over ₱1 million in revenue. He now applies lessons from that experience, including listening to user feedback and continuously improving his products. Reaching Google Play’s Top 10 Free Apps list was an achievement he said he did not expect. However, managing development, maintenance, business responsibilities, and schoolwork remains a challenge while he is still a student.
Technology That Also Supports the Community
Navalta sees technology as more than a way to make daily tasks convenient. Following a fire incident in Barangay Leon Garcia, Agdao, Davao City, DavaoGo displayed information about community donation drives to help spread awareness. He also hopes to improve the app’s route information and eventually make it available to iOS users. While real-time vehicle tracking remains a future possibility, he says the project is independent and is not officially affiliated with the Davao City government, LTFRB, or any transport agency.
Filipinos can turn their technical skills into solutions
Francisco Navalta’s story shows how young Filipinos can turn their technical skills into solutions that serve their communities. By creating the DavaoGo commuter app, he is helping Dabawenyos plan their journeys while continuing to balance development with his education. His next challenge is to improve the platform, reach more users, and explore new features. For aspiring young developers, his journey is a reminder that even a student-led project can make a practical difference.
