Filipino Hip-Hop Crews Gain Senate Recognition After HHI Wins

Five Filipino hip-hop crews are getting their moment in the spotlight after bringing home 5 medals from this year’s World Hip Hop Dance Championship (HHI) in Phoenix, Arizona. Moreover, they recently earned recognition from the Senate, reinforcing the country’s growing global presence in the sport.

Making Moves at the Senate

On September 8, the Senate adopted Senate Resolution No. 591, which congratulated and commended the Philippine delegation for its strong showing at the HHI 2026. The competition was held from July 25 to August 1.

Femme MNL and HQ took home gold medals in the Megacrew and Adult divisions, respectively. The Crew followed with a silver in the Megacrew division, while Folkjumpers and Sayawatha Jr. each won bronze in the Adult and Junior divisions.

It’s More Than a Competition Now

Dubbed the “Olympics of Hip-Hop Dance,” HHI brings together crews from around the world to compete in one of the biggest stages for hip-hop and street dance.

For Team Philippines, the five medals mean something beyond just competition wins. They show how Filipino hip-hop crews can hold their own against some of the best groups in the world, especially when given the opportunity to perform internationally.

The Year of Filipino Talent

These 5 crews are recent additions to a larger wave of Filipino talent earning Senate recognitions from international stages.

Earlier this year, “Nation’s Girl Group” BINI received Senate Resolution No. 370 following their historic Coachella performance. Other [Senate] resolutions were also filed in August to honor “Kings of P-pop” SB19 for their Lollapalooza stint and tennis star Alex Eala for her victory at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open.

The Creative Industry at Its Finest

Looking outward, the recognition also highlights the potential of the creative industry in the country.

Senator Bam Aquino, who chairs the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship, noted that these successes proved Filipino hip-hop crews can compete globally with the right opportunities and support. Especially for those dancing in studios, joining local competitions, or simply dancing their way through life, Team Philippines offered a glimpse of what could be possible.
