Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines: The Crowd Holds the Power

On April 11, the Philippines was once again at the forefront of the global street dance scene as this year’s Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines National Finals were held at the Bridgetowne Open Grounds in Pasig.

A Nationwide Search

Sixteen of the country’s top street dancers stepped into the spotlight, each earning their place through a series of regional qualifiers and wildcards held across key cities. And it all culminated with a tournament-style showdown that tested not just technique, but instinct, musicality, and connection.

No Judges, No Problem

Unlike traditional dance competitions, Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines strips the format to its core. The Top 16 were split into one-on-one freestyle battles across all styles, with each dancer marked under “Red” or “Blue.” They performed with no choreography, relying instead on their ability to adapt to a playlist of pop hits and funk classics.

The fan’s colors determine who moves on to the next round.

Another standout from the event is how the winners are decided. Abanikos with a “red” and “blue” side were given to the audience upon entry. And after each round, they raised whichever color they preferred to determine who moved on. This way, every movement carried weight, and every reaction shifted the result.

More Than a Competition

The event also served as a playground for the local street dance community. Prior to the tournament, Vietnamese popping icon MT Pop staged a workshop for the crowd to join in. Later on, he took part in a showcase crew battle with other touring dancers. Lastly, special performances from renowned dance crew Legit Status and P-pop group KAIA added to the night’s energy.

MT Pop won the competition overall back in 2024.

More than just a contest, it became a shared space for self-expression, where dancers and spectators alike played a role in making it unforgettable.

The dancers’ fate lies in the crowd’s hands.

One Stage, One Representative

After four grueling rounds, Manila’s Izzy Johnson emerged as the national champion. He will represent the Philippines at the Red Bull Dance Your Style 2026 World Final in Zurich, Switzerland.

Red Bull Dance Your Style Philippines ultimately showed that the dance floor can be a space of democracy. It didn’t just crown a winner; it showcased a community that chose who’d represent it on a global scale.
